NBA 2KTV host Rachel DeMita entered the 2K Sports offices to get the details fans have been asking for regarding NBA 2K16 but 2K have been too tight-lipped to share so far. Among other things is 2K’s tease for a huge upcoming change to gameplay.
Before that, however, here are details on what they did reveal:
There will be three new classic teams
· 2000 Toronto Raptors (Vince Carter and T-Mac era)
· 2008 NBA Champion Boston Celtics
· 2001 NBA Champion Los Angeles Lakers
Of course, there is a possibility of more classic teams to be added in the future.
2K is going above and beyond what is reasonable to get more accurate shoes into the game. Artists aren’t just 3D scanning athlete’s shoes; they’re compositing using real life shots of the shoes out in the courts. They confirmed Dwayne Wade’s and Klay Thompson’s shoes made it, and they are working on getting other brands and signature shoes into the game.
All the crowd animations have been reshot, with new pumped up animations that 2K’s devs hope will enhance the atmosphere. The devs in charge of this won’t say more, but they did confirm they are watching the current Playoffs, and the reactions the fans are having there.
And now, for the meat. Player movement is getting a serious reworking. A lot of animations and tech is getting improved under the hood.
More importantly, however, the devs in charge of movement are working on something big that can’t be revealed yet. While they refuse to reveal what this exactly is yet, it is a change that is so big that it is actually stressing out their engineers. They also promise it is a change that will make NBA 2K16 look much better than any previous installment in the series.
Cryptically, the devs alluded to two words. We weren’t told what the two words were, but Rachel DeMita’s jaw dropped open, so it’s definitely something the fans will enjoy.
NBA 2K16 will be released on September 29 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
