Square Enix is rumored to be working on a new installment of Front Mission.
Helming this series is Toshifumi Nabeshima, who worked on a similar mecha based IP under From Software called Armored Core. However, while Armored Core has always been a series of third person shooters with RPG elements, Front Mission started out as a series of tactical RPGs, with several spinoffs.
The original Front Mission, which came out on the SNES in 1995, received ports to PlayStation, WonderSwan Color, Nintendo DS, and PlayStation Network in subsequent years. Most of the tactical RPGs came out on PlayStation, but the latest game, Front Mission Evolved, was a third person shooter like Armored Core, developed by a Western studio, Double Helix.
While the original tactical RPG series is a venerable IP with a cult following, it seems more likely this new installment will also be a shooter. Front Mission has always struggled with appealing to a wider audience, but perhaps the association with an employee from the now famous From Software will help in broadening that appeal.
