Pokemon Legends: Arceus Players Can Expect Familiar Combat Mechanics

January 5, 2022 by Dennis Patrick

In case you missed out on the marketing for this game.

Pokemon fans have been enjoying various video games for countless years. Overall, the gameplay has remained essentially the same. Players will venture around and capture different Pokemon. Likewise, the combat has remained the same for the most part. Essentially players would go through a turn-based combat system where you would send out different attacks from your Pokemon or use items. Now fans are gearing up for the latest release, Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

The subreddit for Pokemon Legends: Arceus recently brought in a worthwhile question. One user questioned the combat system for Pokemon Legends: Arceus. While this was covered in the past, there is likely more attention on this game due to it releasing later on within the month. Likewise, there are likely even more newcomers to the game that missed out on some of the marketing material along with missing out on some of the more recent games. If this is the case for you, let us relay some quick, useful information. The combat in Pokemon Legends: Arceus should be familiar to you.

If you played previous mainline Pokemon games, the gameplay mechanics are similar in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Players will not deal with random encounters, nor will there be any transition screens for battles. Instead, you’ll be able to jump right into one when you spot a Pokemon in the area. From there, the game is a bit like past games where there is a turn-based combat element. With that said, there might be a new slight catch.

The combat will have a different focus on speed. In the past, depending on which Pokemon had the higher speed rating would attack first. Since you can jump right into a battle in this installment, there is a slightly different take on why speed might be important. Through speed, players can potentially get through two commands in one turn. This could be anything from multiple attacks or using an attack along with an item. Hopefully, that might clear some of the combat questions up if you’re thinking about picking this installment up. Speaking of, Pokemon Legends: Arceus will be available on January 28, 2022, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch platform.
