The Witcher 3 PC Graphics Options, Settings, and Optimization

May 18, 2015 by Ian Miles Cheong

Here are the graphics options for the PC version of The Witcher 3.

The Witcher 3 is almost upon us, and with it, players (especially those on the PC) have purchased a wealth of hardware to ensure that the game runs great on the highest (Ultra) settings it has to offer.

Despite the fact that the game is getting a multiplatform release, much of the focus happens to be on the PC version, with specific features and graphical options designed to cater specifically to PC gamers. So you might be wondering what settings the game includes–well, wonder no more, because they are as follows:

On-off toggles

  • Motion blur
  • Blur
  • Anti-aliasing
  • Bloom
  • Sharpening
  • Depth of Field
  • Chromatic Aberration
  • Vignetting
  • Light Shafts
  • NVidia HairWorks
  • VSync

Sliders

  • Ambient Occlusion slider: none to HBAO+
  • Maximum Frames Per Second: Unlimited, 30, 60
  • Resolution: 1024×768 to 1920×1080
  • Display mode: Windowed, Borderless Window, Full Screen
  • Number of Background Characters: Low to Ultra
  • Shadow Quality: Low to Ultra
  • Terrain Quality: Low to Ultra
  • Water Quality: Low to Ultra
  • Grass Density: Low to Ultra
  • Texture Quality: Low to Ultra
  • Foliage Visibility Range: Low to Ultra

Other options include the ability to switch between a large HUD and a small HUD. There is no button to disable it entirely, however, which seems like an oversight on CD Projekt Red's part.

Disabling HairWorks is also a good idea, even if you have an Nvidia GTX 980, as it carries a huge performance hit even on 1080p.

The Witcher 3 comes out tomorrow for the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
