Black Ops 3 Hacking Mechanics Possibilities and the Return of Black Hat

Hacking as a game mechanic will undoubtedly be a part of Black Ops 3.

Hacking as a game mechanic has been around in the Call of Duty franchise since Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. Not to be confused with hacking the game to cheat–using wallhacks, speedhacks and the like–hacking has been a part of the series' futuristic theme in some of its recent titles, including Advanced Warfare where system hacks shut down your heads-up display and serve as a major distraction during play.

In Black Ops 2, there was the Black Hat perk that allowed you to take over enemy objects and a variety of tactical equipment, like Bouncing Betty mines and you could even coordinate with your teammates to take down enemy scorestreams like UAVs, Stealth Choppers, and VTOL Warships.

In addition to that, Black Hat allowed you to more quickly capture Care Packages. Before the game was patched, it was even possible to take Care Packages faster than the person who summoned them. This has since been patched out, but it was fun while it lasted.

The question is whether the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will feature Black Hat as a perk or something similar. It could be very interesting, especially when paired with a perk like Engineer, which lets you see enemy tactical equipment through walls. Turning an enemy team's set of turrets and mine emplacements against them would make for a hilariously good time–for your team, anyway.

Responding to a fan's question as to whether Black Hat will make it into the game, Treyarch's David Vondeerhaar responded: "I haven't answered that. We have big plans for 'hacking' mechanics and are still working it out."

So yeah, it looks like some form of hacking is in. But whether that will be in the form of Black Hat remains to be seen.

It should be noted that the single-player campaign appears to have some form of hacking by allowing players to take control of UAVs and bombard enemies with them with a wave of the hand. It's unlikely that we'll see this mechanic in the multiplayer portion of the game, but some aspect of it might make it in.
