YouTuber Cynnical has a crazy, but possibly true, theory that posits that Kingdom Hearts 3’s release date could have been predicted by Kingdom Hearts 2. You can subscribe to him on YouTube here.
In Twilight Town, you can visit a younger cersion of Seifer Almasy. Seifer treats Sora with general disdain, but will give him a Struggle Trophy if you beat the Nobodies that go after his gang.
Now, here’s the thing. One of his dialogue trees sees him talking to Sora with that aforementioned disdain, particularly for his power. Seifer then tells Sora to go back in ten years time.
So, is this a hint at plans for a Kingdom Hearts 3 release? Maybe and maybe not. I personally think it’s something else. This may simply be Seifer giving a clue to his age in the game. He is eighteen in his original game, Final Fantasy 8, so if you do the math, he is likely to be only eight during the events of Kingdom Hearts 2.
But then again, who says it couldn’t be a clue to Kingdom Hearts 3’s release either. For reference sake, Kingdom Hearts 2 was originally released in Japan on December 22, 2005, and then in North America on March 28 the following year.
Even if these were Square Enix’s plans from so long ago, it would be hard to believe that Square is ready to release the game this holiday or even early next year. They just announced the game last E3 2013, with Tetsuya Nomura literally being pulled from work on Final Fantasy 15 to start on it. There’s also the clear case that other games slated for this holiday, including Tom Clancy’s The Division and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, were delayed.
In the end, even if there is any validity to this speculation, it may not hold true based on what we've known anyway. If Square, Nomura had these plans, they have definitely changed.
Kingdom Hearts 3 is planned for release on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
