This 10 minute walk-through of indie game AirMech seems to remind just about everyone that looks at it of Herzog Zwei, a game that is arguably called "the first RTS game". In reality it *isn't*, but Herzog Zwei can certainly be credited with first making use of some of the gameplay mechanics that ultimately populated the first actual real time strategy games.
AirMech seems to combine elements of Herzog Zwei, the Strike franchise from the Genesis, and some other RTS influences…although the developers would have has believe it's heavily based on games like DotA. Regardless, it looks great, and I want to play it immediately.
