Perfect World, the Chinese gaming conglomerate which now owns American MMO developer Crytpic Studios, released a quarterly earnings report this week. In it, Chief Financial Officer Kelvin Lau revealed that Star Trek Online will be switching over to a free-to-play business model by the end of the year.
This should be surprising to no-one, as it seems just about every MMO out there that isn't owned by a major American developer/publisher is switching over to/being built around a free-to-play model. Seeing as how I find paying subscription fees to be generally unpleasant, I have absolutely no problem with this!
Thanks, RPS!
