There is reason to believe that Dead Island 2 has been delayed to next year.
This is based on a now deleted tweet from a PR Manager for developer Yager Development.
There is no reason or rationale provided for such a delay. Yager also happens to be working on another game, massive combat flight sim Dreadnought.
Yager is taking over the reigns of the Dead Island franchise from Techland. Unlike Techland’s games, Dead Island 2 is not set in an island, but certain locations in California, LA, and San Francisco, in a massive explorable world. The game also introduces new mechanics, including a weapon crafting system, and a Rage system which gives players temporary buffs.

Until otherwise confirmed, Dead Island 2 is planned for release this year on Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
