Star Wars Battlefront 3 to Offer 40-Player Battles

April 17, 2015 by Ian Miles Cheong

40-player battles will be set in locations seen in the original three Star Wars films.

Star Wars Battlefront is set to have an explosive reveal later today at the Star Wars Celebration currently taking place in Anaheim, California.

Ahead of its big reveal, the game's developer DICE and publisher EA have revealed some exciting new details about the upcoming title. Namely, the game is set to take place amid the conflicts of the original film trilogy, with up to 40-players portraying both the Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire forces.

According to the Associated Press, which managed to check out a demonstration of the game in action, a team of jetpack-equipped rebels were shown fighting amid the forest of Endor while Stormtroopers attacked them on foot, on speeders, and within AT-AT walkers.

Other confirmed locales in the game include Hoth, Tatooine, and Sullust, a lava-spewing planet referenced in Return of the Jedi.

According to the game's design director, players can take on the role of Darth Vader himself, wielding a lightsaber, use the Force to choke rebels, and essentially be the "boss of the battle."

"This means that you, as Vader, can lead your team to victory — if you play well," he said.

Battlefront will also include a free DLC two weeks before the Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters on December 18. According to DICE, players will battle upon the surface of Jakku, a battle-scarred desert planet glimpsed in teasers for the film. The expansion is dubbed "Battle of Jakku" and will explore the moment following Return of the Jedi when the New Republic confronted Imperial holdouts on the previously unseen Outer Rim enclave.

The game has been confirmed for a November 17, 2015 release on the PC, Xbox One and PS4.
