It would have made sense if DICE revealed Star Wars Battlefront 3 at GDC, or possibly PAX East, but it didn’t happen. This was a particularly strange omission because it would have been perfectly timed with DICE’s promise of a Spring 2015 release.
Still, the promise stands, and we have to wonder when they will actually be releasing it. There are no pending huge events to unveil the footage, except for the StarWars Celebration in Anaheim, to be held this April 16 to 19. This will be a huge event, with many stars of the original movies to be in attendance. As of right now, this looks like the best time for DICE to reveal the game.
There is one reason that this could not play out this way however, and that would be Battlefield Hardline. Battlefield Hardline, on Early Access today, will be released on March 17 to Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Revealing Star Wars Battlefront 3 on the same week Battlefield Hardline releases could hurt that game’s bottomline.
But then again, EA may be content to do things this way, as Battlefield Hardline has only created unwanted controversy for the company and its studios for its portrayal of an overarmed police force.
We do know one thing for sure. If DICE is staying true to their word, we will see Star Wars Battlefront 3 before E3, because at that point it will well have been summer.
