After going through several preview videos for Final Fantasy 15 Episode Duscae, we have five interesting observations we’d like to share with you.
These videos come to us courtesy of Famitsu, and do a good job of highlighting just how the game operates. To be frank, may things you will see in this videos weren’t talked about in interviews and other previews. Perhaps, this is partly attributable to how hard they are to explain.
Without further ado, here’s our list:
1. Seamless transitions between systems
Square Enix did a good job of incorporating several systems into Episode Duscae in such a way that they minimized the need for you to go back into menus. There are times where it reverts to that; for example, when you approach a shop in Duscae to go through a top down list of items, but these are exceptions, not the rule.
2. Prompto is not skilled at fighting, and it shows
Interestingly enough, Prompto has a lot of character in the demo. See, unlike Noctis and his friends, he comes from a lower class, so it seems he is being depicted as having less or no formal fight training. While you won’t have to cover up for him in the field, it’s amusing to see him moving around the battlefield acting like he knows more about fighting than he does.
3. Noctis’ more powerful attacks are wind up attacks
Many of Noctis’ more powerful attacks need time to wind up, an important consideration in combat. Again, instead of being pure twitchy action, you will need to plan your attacks carefully to make sure they hit. In general, it’s best to wear down or stun an opponent before you move in with these attacks.
4. The camera will move in front of you.
This can be seen when Noctis is in the cave and gets into a fight with the trolls inside. Usually, the camera is reliably just behind Noctis, and occasionally close enough to approximate first person perspective. However, the game will adjust to a frontal view in cramped spaces, so be mindful of the possible shift in view in places like this.
5. Noctis is less reliable when he’s hurt.
In the same troll battle, Noctis is visibly hurt by the trolls, and he acts wounded. He occasionally stops fighting to act out his pain, and this leaves him open to attack. It’s not clear if you have control of when he does this, but in situations like this, you need to be extra careful, especially if you’re still in the middle of the fight.
TheFinal Fantasy XV demo will be available as part of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Final Fantasy Type-0 HD will be available on March 17 in the US and March 20 in Europe. You can watch the videos these were seen above and below.
