Fable Legends will be taking the franchise in a different direction. While previous entries into the series have had more of an RPG shell enclosing their stories and gameplay, Legends is a free-to-play cooperative play title.
Speaking at the Game Developer's Conference yesterday, engineering lead Raymond Arifianto spoke about Lionhead Studios' vision for cross-play functionality. Arifianto made note that Legends will make fervent use of a cloud-based storage system, so there is less authenticating required by various softwares necessary to make Legends run smoothly.
Arifianto continued:
"The game will be optimized for each device and its input scheme."
"People ask us why we don't just do this the way it has always been done before," he said. "Why don't we split the player pool up into Xbox and PC? What we have learned is that every time people play Fable Legends, either as a hero or a villain, it's a different experience. A larger pool of players creates opportunities for a richer experience."
Thanks, Polygon.
