Dragon Age Lead Writer Now Working On Mysterious New BioWare Project

March 4, 2015 by Ian Miles Cheong

The lead writer of Dragon Age is no longer working on Dragon Age and has shifted to a new project.

David Gaider, the lead writer of the Dragon Age series, is moving on–but not from BioWare. Instead, the writer announced today that he will be departing the Dragon Age series to work on an all new, unannounced project at the studio.

David Gaider served as the principal writer for the Dragon Age games, where he lead the writing on all three main Dragon Age titles as well as the Awakenings expansion for Dragon Age: Origins. He also worked on the tie-in novels The Stolen Throne, The Calling, and Asunder–as well as the comic book series.

Here's what he had to say on Twitter:

"So a bit of news: I have decided leave Dragon Age and move onto a new, upcoming BioWare project (which I can't discuss).

"While it's hard to leave Dragon Age behind, 10 years is a long time to work on any one project. I decided it was time for something new.

"I am happy, however, to leave Dragon Age in good hands: @PatrickWeekes will be Lead Writer once I'm gone. I can't think of anyone better."

Weekes is credited for writing the Dragon Age novel The Masked Empire and the 2nd Mass Effect: Homeworlds comic. He's also responsible for penning the characters of Jack, Tali, Kasumi, and Mordin and the Rannoch and Tuchanka story arcs in Mass Effect 3. Beyond that, he wrote quite a bit for Dragon Age: Inquisition, penning the characters of Iron Bull, Solas, Cole, and "Here Lies the Abyss" story arc. He's clearly a man with talent.

With Dragon Age in good hands, it'll be interesting to see what comes out of Weekes and Gaider both, on each of their projects.
