During their press conference in Germany, Sony has announced a price cut for the PS3.
All European territories will now be able to buy the PlayStation 3 slimline model for €249. The console's North American price is now $249.99. UK will see a price drop to £249. Japan, meanwhile, sees a price drop to ¥24,980.
So, basically: €249 – Europe/ $249 – United States/ £249 – United Kingdom.
The previous official recommended retail price for the console was £291.05.
The price cut will be applied to two different models of the PS3 slim. The 320GB and 120GB models have both received price cuts. Amazon UK has already cut the price of Sony's platform; the 320GB model now has a price tag of £215.20, which means consumers save a considerable amount: £75.85, which equates to a 26 per cent cut from the original price.
The 160GB PS3 slim model, meanwhile, is now available on the online retailer for £192.00, with its reccomended retail price previously being £255.30 – this results in consumers saving £63.30, resulting in a 25 per cent cut.
