Mass Effect 4: New BioWare Job Listing Seeks Senior Animator

February 26, 2015 by Ian Miles Cheong

A Senior Animator is being looked at for a position at BioWare.

BioWare Montreal, the team behind the Mass Effect series, has put up a new job position for a new Senior Cinematic Animator at its studio.

The job listing doesn't specifically mention Mass Effect 4, but there's little doubt that someone in such a senior position wouldn't be involved in the upcoming title, which has yet to have an official name. The upcoming title is, after all, being developed at the company's Montreal and Edmonton offices, so there's little reason to think otherwise.

BioWare provided some small amount of insight as to what the position would entail, which involves working on high-level animations within the game's engine on new-gen platforms like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The developer mentions that the new hire would have to be able to depict 'mood and emotion through facial animation', which is something previous games in the series had, but not to the extent of what new-gen technology has to offer.

Here's what the job entails in full:

  • Develop and animate cut scenes that support the narrative of the games
  • Animate the human form, giving the character weight, personality, mood, and believability
  • Animate in realistic and stylized motion, on both human and creature models
  • Convey mood and emotion through facial animation
  • Define and estimate tasks in a well organized manner
  • Interact and collaborate with the different departments (Design, Art, Programming, Writing, etc.)
  • Excellent problem solving skills. Candidate must be able to quickly identify issues and resolve them.

We'll keep you up to date with details about the next Mass Effect as they become available.

As previously reported, the game is set to be even bigger than Dragon Age: Inquisition.
