A couple of weeks ago, Hideo Kojima made the statement that he'd love to see an HD remake of the original Metal Gear Solid. Though, he also made note that he could not find the volunteer support to make something like that a reality, leaving us all to wonder if it will ever happen.
One particularly excited fan may have gotten a bit overzealous regarding Kojima's statements. "Tom," as the user was named, created a Kickstarter to help fund the project, not even considering Kojima's thoughts on the matter. Here's what his Kickstarter was described as:
About this project
Metal Gear Solid is one of the best experiences on PSX. With the Fox Engine and next gen graphics, we will relive all of the best moments. For those of you who have not played it yet; Now is your chance to see what all the fuss is about!
Not just updated graphics, this will be a whole new level of cinematic depth only the fox engine can handle!
We won't keep you waiting! This is a long awaited project that we can't wait to start!
Thanks, you're pretty good!
Risks and challenges
Metal Gear Solids know that a great game takes time. Our biggest challenge is going to be setbacks and delays.
We will work exhaustively to avoid delays but if we are unable to avoid it then, we would.
Rushing this game is not an option and I know our fans understand.
You can check out the original posting here, though the funding – which was asking for $650,000 – has since been canceled. While this Kickstarter may be a very poor example of it, the posting does show a want for a Metal Gear Solid remake among fans of the series.
