Sony has once again reiterated that they are still working on The Last Guardian.
Just yesterday, observers noted that the trademarked name was once again not renewed by Sony, leading fans into doubts that they were still interested in the game’s development.
This time, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has confirmed to Videogamer.com that the game is still in development. They did not give any explanation on why the trademark has been abandoned, but if there was still any doubt following Sony France’s statement, this latest confirmation should quell those fears.
This latest cycle of trademark cancellations and reaffirmation may be tiring to fans who are still holding out for the game. We are all more than familiar with the story of the game’s troubled, and now extended, development.
Shuhei Yoshida himself acknowledged that they were putting fans through a ‘rollercoaster of emotions’ regarding the game, and perhaps doing so unnecessarily.
Yoshida then stated that they did not want fans to be saddled with ‘piecemeal information’ regarding the game’s development.
However, at this point it seems clear that fans will need more information than they have already received if they are still to believe Sony. If they still won’t show any previews for the game, they should at least explain why they aren’t defending the trademark as aggressively as they should be for a work in progress.
How do you feel about The Last Guardian at this point? If you were in Sony’s place, what would you tell fans at this point? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
