Dragon’s Dogma Online Confirmed While Deep Down Remains Incognito

January 27, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

This new game will have a new setting and extensive online party features, but the same old Dragons’ Dogma combat.

Famitsu has confirmed Dragon’s Dogma Online, a free-to-play version of the popular RPG, for Windows, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4.

It will have a new setting, but the core combat remains very much Dragon’sDogma. This time, you will have parties of up to four players, with AI pawns. You will also be able to chat and find party members in lobbies that can accommodate 100 people. The lobbies will make quick matching possible.

Of course, as is the case with most MMOs, everything comes in a larger scale. Updates will be big, and the world will get considerably bigger with each seasonal update. By the time the updates are done, the world will be three times as big. There will also be timed events, and raid-like events where you can have eight-player parties. When facing big monsters, their attacks get stronger as you make them angrier.

One change from previous games is a broader character creation system. You will have your pick of any job you like, including fighter, hunter, priest, shield sage, and more.

As it is described here, the game falls short of being a full MMO, but it clearly has been designed to cater to that audience. Perhaps what makes this announcement strange is the continued no-show of Capcom’s other online game, deep down.deep down was supposed to come out before Dragon’s Dogma Online, but now appears set to release way after.
