Splatoon Updates: Currency, Weapons And Headgear Shops, And More

January 21, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

It seems EAD2 has one final squid to reveal, and they leaked it early.

Nintendo EAD2 has slowly shared a drip feed of new information for their quirky upcoming shooter, Splatoon, since the Direct last week. We’re sharing some of the new details below, particularly regarding the shops.

Splatoon is coming exclusively to the Wii U on May 2015, and the official Tumblr dropped a hint on the king of squids, the bigfin reef squid, frequently having sightings on that month. It seems EAD2 has one final squid to reveal, and they leaked it early.

The main hub shown in the Direct is also in the city the Squidlings call home, and they make a direct comparison to Shibuya, like many a 90s PlayStation era game. The green tower is where the Squidlings assemble to play online.

They hinted at the four main shops in the Direct, where you can buy weapons, headgear, clothing, and shoes. Those items change daily, so it’s worth checking in everyday. To earn currency to buy items, you will have to play well. In particular, the more turf you cover in ink, the more currency you get.

The horseshoe crab runs the weapons shop, and is a stereotypical military nerd. He takes good care of the weapon he sells you, but he will sell no gun before its time, so earning experience is a must. You will be able to bring one main weapon, a sub weapon, and a special weapon.

EAD also revealed more about two of the said subweapons. One is an ink shield that blocks enemies and their ink for a short time. The other is a massive ink missile, that you can target on the map by tapping the Gamepad screen. It’s powerful, but it isn’t that hard to avoid if you see it coming.

Most recently are tweets about the headgear shop, fan translated for now. It has a stylish yet stoic sea anemone owner, who sells hats, glasses, headphones, and gas masks, but the shop itself is not neatly organized, if you catch my drift. The clownfish on her head lives and apparently likes to talk smack. No word on whether the headgear does anything aside from make your character look cool, but we may learn about it yet.

What would you like the headgear to do? What would you like to hear about Splatoon next? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
