Touhou Project is one heck of a beast. What began as a series of independently produced bullet hell shooters has exploded into a bottomless source of inspiration for Japanese hobby developers. Many of the games spun off from Touhou include clones of popular titles, such as Mario, Mega Man, and Castlevania. Now, a group called From Soy Sauce is working on a Smash Bros. copycat called Touhou Super Smash Battles.
From Soy Sauce has taken to Indiegogo to raise funds for Smash Battles, which looks to take Melee as a base and layer it with Touhou-specific features and other improvements. As you can see in the video above, you'll be able to execute technical Melee moves, like wavedashing and crouch canceling. Beyond that, every character will be able to hover like Peach or Mewtwo, there will be air grabs, spell cards from the main Touhou games will be incorporated, and characters will enter a struggle when they try to grab one another simultaneously.
Touhou Super Smash Battles, scheduled for release on Windows, OS X, and Linux, has already hit its $10K base goal with 26 days remaining. There is still room for stretch goals, which can add more characters, voice acting, and even a Metroidvania story mode.
