Playstation Network went down on Christmas through an attack made by hacking group Lizard Squad. Since then, it seems like the service hasn't really regained its punching power. As it turns out, large droves of Playstation users are reporting more serious problems as of this morning. This tweet came from the Ask Playstation Twitter page:
We're aware that some players are seeing drops on PSN. Engineers are on the case and investigating.
While it might be a simple maintenance glitch, it just goes to show how fragile these networks and systems are. Let's not forget that in the Christmas attack that Microsoft's Xbox LIVE service also went down, albeit for a shorter time than Sony's.
We're not sure what hackers have to gain other than the feeling of accomplishment that must come with taking down a network. Most of these attacks don't actually steal any information, they just make using whichever service is affected an impossibility.
