Back in November, we heard that Sony Online Entertainment, developers of Planetside 2, were looking to get the game's beta out before 2015 started. Well, here we are on New Year's Eve, and that's obviously not going to happen.
According to Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley, the game's beta is confirmed for the weeks of January 13 or January 20. We're not sure why there isn't a definitive schedule so close to the beta's arrival, but the holidays do tend to throw a wrench in the works.
Smedley explained the delay, "It'll be because we want to maintain a completely solid 30 fps. But that's the optimization we're working on right now."
"To have our launch on the PS4 feel like a great PS4 native console game. Not just a PC port."
To clarify, Sony Online Entertainment has said that they want the game to run at 1080p and feature 60 frames per second. Odds are, if they are aiming for 30, that the goal of 60 frames per second wasn't achieved. It's too bad, as we'd love to see what that looked like on the Playstation 4.
