Double Fine has revealed that Broken Age Act 2 will received a slight delay, to early 2015.
Rather than reporting issues, Double Fine states that development is progressing very well. The team is working on it as quickly as they can, and they expect to hit alpha status before the end of the year.
So why the delay? It all boils down to quality control. Double Fine has opted to take the extra time for to deliver a product in the quality level fans expect Double Fine games to have, over delivering on the original intended date.
Fans are divided on how to take the news, with some fans debating on the length of Act 2. It should be noted that they are speculating on this for now, as Double Fine has not revealed any estimated playtime.
While Double Fine is usually venerated, this announcement is receiving critical responses because of a few major PR gaffes associated with the project. The developer was suspected of getting greedy over making the game a two parter, and a controversial embargo upon Broken Age Act 1’s release. Double Fine did change their mind on the embargo and argued they needed to split up Broken Age to deliver the game as it should be.
Of course, there is no lack of recent AAA releases that came out in time for the holidays, but were of dubious quality. Perhaps the game’s backers will be more forgiving this time around.
