A fan has made a wonderful faux documentary of the waters that lay beneath Los Santos for Grand Theft Auto 5.
Called Into The Deep, the video cleverly reveals several game features and content, under the conceit that this is all being explained for a TV viewing audience. If you don’t play the game, it actually passes for a fake doc pretty well, complete with a Costeau/Attenboroughlike European sounding narrator. If you actually play the game, this gives you a good idea of what can be found below once you earn that submarine.
The video starts by showing off the submarine’s functionality. Thanks to its illuminatory headlights and dual cameras, you get a wide view of the ocean depths.
Close to the shore, before you see any marine life, you will find refuse thrown irresponsibly by Los Santos’ inhabitants.
When you delve deeper, however, you will find your way to some big fish, including killer whales, kelp, a humback whale. Moving eastward, and in shallower waters, it is easy to find sharks, hammerheads, and bottlenose dolphins. Lastly, you can even find fossils around Los Santos, vicinity, although it seems you’ll need to delve deep and far from land.
It’s not quite Nintendo’s Endless Ocean, but just having free exploration on a large virtual aquarium is quite an achievement in itself. Interestingly, the video also demonstrates you can move the camera around to see the outside of the submarine.
Grand Theft Auto 5 will be released on January 27, 2015 for Windows.
