Mute City Track from Mario Kart 8 DLC Recreated in F-Zero X

November 20, 2014 by Tony Ponce

The Japan-only F-Zero X Expansion Kit was used to build this custom course.

Nintendo seemingly has no plans to make another F-Zero game, but that hasn't stopped the Kyoto company from dropping major references in games like Nintendo Land and Super Smash Bros. The latest tease is the Mute City track that's part of the new Mario Kart 8 DLC. Mario Kart 8 already had F-Zero's trademark anti-gravity mechanic, so adding the futuristic racer's trademark course (and trademark vehicle) was the next step.

In a completely meta twist, a YouTuber named Uchiha Madao went ahead and recreated Mario Kart 8's version of Mute City in the N64 classic F-Zero X. Specically, he used F-Zero X Expansion Kit, which was released for the Japan-only 64DD attachment and includes a track builder. As you can see in the video above, tearing through the course in a true F-Zero game is even more exhilarating.

Below is the track as it appears in Mario Kart 8 for comparison.
