EA DICE has shared the release trailer for Battlefield 4’s last DLC, Final Stand.
Final Stand exists not only as the summation of the events of the War of 2020, but to connect it to the War of 2142, and along with it, Battlefield 2142.
Basically, Final Stand marks the origins of the Pan-Asian Coalition, the main antagonist of Battlefield 2142. At this point, Russia, China, and other member countries recognize a dwindling of resources, and decide to team up and take out other countries to keep those resources for themselves. This scheme was to eventually fail, but here, we see how the PAC start out.
DICE has dropped hints about Battlefield 2142 in prior DLC. In Final Stand, the more futuristic tech is alluded to here. The Rorsch MK-1, for example, is a prototype of the Rorsch MK-S8, a powerful charge weapon whose guaranteed one hit kills make its one second charging time between shots worth the wait.
Similarly, the XD-1 Accipiter attack drone is a predecessor to the SD-8 Accipiter. It can hover and stop on its own, but is saddled with the low battery life of an SUAV.
Although the game itself is set in the far future, Battlefield 2142 was released in 2006 and its online servers long taken down. If you were a fan of that game, you must have been happy with much of Battlefield 4’s DLC. With Final Stand, you may get to see the direct connections being made.
