After all this time, fans have chimed in to discuss the state of Driveclub on the PlayStation 4.
To briefly reiterate, the OP pointed out these facts about the game
· It was announced February 2013, to release that November.
· On October 2013, Sony revealed the game was delayed to early 2014.
· On April 2014, the game was delayed one last time to October 7.
· After the delayed launch, the game still has problems with online multiplayer.
· As a result of the server issues, the PS Plus version of the game has been indefinitely delayed.
One fan who attempted to defend the core game was quickly corrected by other fans. One stated that the core single player does not have enough cars, little customization, and its mechanics are off. However, it should be noted that other fans share this sentiment that the game is OK outside of the server issues, like this fan, who received a full refund nonetheless.
Many fans share this sentiment, that Microsoft and their Xbox One now goes ahead of PlayStation 4 when it comes to arcade and sim racers. Some of them are still feeling burned from Polyphony Digital for Gran Turismo 6, but unlike Turn 10 with Forza 5, Polyphony does not seem to get the benefit of the doubt, perhaps because of the differences in the two dev’s approaches with fan criticism.
Lastly, as these fans point out and Evolution themselves confirm, the issues with online do not lie in the servers per se, but with some buggy netcode, that Evolution was considering rewriting from scratch. They may already be at work on that.
