Fans of original Sonic the Hedgehog programmer Yuji Naka were thrilled when it was announced that his latest game, the borderline vaporware Rodea the Sky Soldier, had been given a solid release date. If you live in Japan, you'll be able to play Rodea on either Wii U or 3DS in Spring 2015.
Rodea was originally set to come to Wii, but its postponed release forced publisher Kadokawa to port the title to Nintendo's current-gen console. However, as a treat for patient fans, you'll be able to play the game as originally intended. Naka's studio Prope mentioned on the company site that the first print run of Rodea Wii U will include the full Wii version as a separate disc so that it can play on actual Wii hardware. It was Naka's intention that the game make use of the Wii Remote, so even though Wii Remote controls might still be an option in the Wii U up-port, this will guarantee that his vision is preserved.
No word yet on a Western release, but there was localization interest in the past. Hopefully that interest still burns brightly. And hopefully that Wii bonus disc will make the trip overseas as well.
