Yesterday, the NPD tracking group announced the North American videogame sales winners for the month of October. As we've relayed to you already, PlaySation 4 once again moved the most units, but more fascinating than the one-sided hardware war was the commotion taking placing among software. Though The Evil Within only placed third on the top 10 list, its performance was strong enough for it to break the record for best first-month sales of a new survival horror IP. Horror isn't dead yet, guys!
Just above The Evil Within in sales ranking was Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, which managed to reach this lofty spot on only a single platform and despite how roughly 700,000 sales were disregarded, considering its first two days on the market were counted as part of last month's reporting period.
Arriving at the end of October was Sunset Overdrive, which sadly did not break the top 10. If sales were broken down by individual platform rather than having each SKU grouped together, Sunset Overdrive would have come in ninth place. Not horrible, but still rough for a major new Xbox One exclusive.
Below is the full top 10 for October 2014. The order of platforms indicates which SKU sold more. Digital sales are not factored into these lists.
