Ubisoft’s biggest titles this holiday won’t be available on Steam, at least if you are in the UK.
Ubisoft revealed that they are still in the middle of negotiating with Valve about bringing their games to Steam UK, but for now, you can only play the PC versions of these games by registering on Uplay.
The games affected are Assassin’s Creed Unity, The Crew, and Far Cry 4. For the moment, these games will not be available on Steam for UK users, although Uplay, as well as online retailers such as GamersGate or GreenMan Gaming will still carry them. This UK store listing also shows these games will be available physically. Digital or physical, UK copies of these games will require Uplay.
Ubisoft did not elaborate on the reason, but it is highly likely that it came down to regional pricing. GOGcom struggled with dealing with regional pricing on their end. While they eventually decided to side with the consumer, this led to Nordic Games pulling their games from the platform.
While Steam has been embraced by consumers, Uplay remains a contentious DRM system. Fans have frequently complained of issues getting their games working when they use Uplay.

Assassin’s Creed Unity will be released in UK on November 14. The Crew will be released in the region on December 2, and Far Cry 4, on November 20.
