Evolve is interesting to me because it is an allegory for so many different things: the games industry moving into the next generation, the constant evolution of game development technology and the game's particular approach to multiplayer action. For those of you who don't know already, Evolve pits one player against four others where multiplayer is concerned. While these odds might sound a bit skewed, the player who is going it alone has quite the advantage: he or she plays the role of an enormous monster, bent on destroying the other four-person squad. While we still think four guns with even decent IQ levels behind them will be able to overcome one strong player, we're very interested to see what Turtle Rock Studios – who develops Evolve – is able to do with its new development ideas.
Adam Sessler, formerly of X-Play and Rev3Games, interviewed a couple of very important figures at Turtle Rock Studios: Phil Robb, creative director and Chris Ashton, design director. Sessler's questions were mainly relegated to asking about the multiplayer framework of the game and the title's upcoming alpha test, which has been described by the developers as simply 'big.'
One quote from the video shows how confident and excited Turtle Rock Studios are for the game.
"The idea that we can have a game that hopefully three years from now, right? When you've just bought some game and it let you down – it didn't live up to your expectations, you know what?" asks Robb rhetorically. "I'm gunna go play Evolve, cause god damn that game is still fun."
