This is a guide for the Bayonetta 2 demo for the Wii U. We explain how the game controls on the GamePad, and using touch controls. We have also included a list of the combos available to Bayonetta, as shared in the demo.
GamePad Controls
To move Bayonetta around, use the left analog stick.
To move the camera around, use the right analog stick. You can change the view by pressing the right analog down.
To punch, press the X button, and to kick, press the A button.
You can pull off different punch and kick combinations to execute combos. Mid-combo, you can hold the last button used (X or A) so that Bayonetta will end her attack by shooting her opponents. Attacking allows you to fill up your Magic Gauge.
To jump, press the B button. While Bayonetta is midair, you can execute unique midair combos by pressing the X and A buttons in different combinations.
To evade, press the ZR button. To activate Witch Time, press the ZR button at the exact moment the opponent is about to hit Bayonetta.
While pressing ZR, you can move the analog stick in any direction. Bayonetta will then evade the opponent’s move either away from the opponent, towards the opponent, away from the screen or towards the screen. This can prove useful when dealing with multiple opponents.

Touch Controls
To move Bayonetta around the screen, you simply touch the part of the screen you want her to go to. This is contextual, but usually, you will be able to move her left or right.
To attack an opponent, touch the opponent on the screen. Combos will automatically come out, and if you hold, Bayonetta will end her attacks by shooting at her opponents.
To jump, double tap the screen on the direction you want Bayonetta to go to. You can also activate attacks after jumping by touching an opponent while midair.
To evade, swipe the Gamepad away from the opponent.
To activate Witch Time, swipe the Gamepad at the exact moment the opponent is about to hit Bayonetta. If performed successfully, you get a few precious seconds to strike your opponents while time slows down for them.
If you are attempting Witch Time, you can swipe in any direction. Bayonetta will then evade the opponent’s move either away from the opponent, towards the opponent, away from the screen or towards the screen. This can prove useful when dealing with multiple opponents.
Items are displayed in the UI at the bottom left of the screen. The active weapon is displayed at the far bottom right. To change weapons, press the active weapon. To use an item, touch and hold it.
Advanced Techniques
When you fill up your magic bar, you can execute Torture Attacks. When near an opponent, a prompt will briefly appear to activate a Torture Attack. You can press the X and A buttons to activate the Torture Attack. You will then activate a mini-QTE where you need to follow the instructions (press X button rapidly, rotate analog stick) for bonus points.
To execute an Umbran Climax, press the L button, You will have to have filled up your Magic Gauge with your regular attacks before you get a prompt that you can use it. Some combos end with Umbran Climax attacks, as demons reach out from the other side with their limbs to strike your enemies.
When you have stunned an opponent, you can execute Punish Attacks. Press the Y button, or on Touch controls, the prompt itself, to activate it. You can then activate a mini-QTE to deal even more damage to the monster for extra damage.
When you have Punished an opponent enough, you get a chance to execute a Climax, by pressing the X and A buttons. This will lead to a mini QTE, and a cutscene showing the defeat of an opponent.
Touch controls simplify advanced techniques down to a prompt in the bottom center of the screen. Watch that spot for when a circle appears to prompt you to execute a Torture Attack, Umbran Climax, Punish Attack, as well as other contextual QTEs. You usually just have to press that prompt, sometimes rapidly, to execute whatever action you are prompted to do.
