Finnish studio Housemarque, best known for PlayStation Network darlings Super Stardust HD and Resogun, has taken its 2011 PSN and XBLA platformer Outland and dropped it onto Steam. The game will normally be priced at $9.99, but you can score it for 15% off until October 6. It's only available for Windows users now, but Mac and Linux versions will arrive at a later date.
Outland combines the non-linear exploration of titles like Metroid or Guacamelee! with the polarity-switching mechanic of the Treasure shooter Ikaruga. Just as in that latter game, red and blue bullets will fill the screen like locusts, and you can absorb them by flipping your polarity to match the bullets' color. You don't have to tackle the adventure alone, as you can partner up online to handle unique two-man challenges.
A special edition of the game featuring a digital artbook and the soundtrack will be released in due time. If you can't wait until then, you can buy Outland now and purchase those extra goodies as DLC.
