Destiny’s Loot Cave has Been Officially Nerfed

September 25, 2014 by Stephen Daly

‘Shooting at a black hole for hours on end isn’t our dream for how Destiny is played’ says Bungie.

Bungie has officially stopped players loot farming in the Skywatch cave in Destiny's Old Russia Cosmodrone region with a new patch.

Shooting at the endlessly spawning waves of enemies which emerged from the cave earned players some great gear, including legendary and exotic armour and weapons on occasion but this grinding process has come to end.

In an update on the game's website, Bungie remarked:

"The Hive of the holy 'Treasure Cave' have realised the futility of their endless assault on Skywatch and have retired to lick their wounds and plan their next attack."

Really, the only surprise is that it's taken this long for the developers to stop players doing this. Explaining why they've done so, Bungie commented:

"The social experience of a cave farming run is amazing: the herding to get a team of Guardians all behind the line and firing in the right direction, the rush to grab the loot, the scramble when the panic wave starts, the beckoning glow from inside the cave. The speed at which the community organised around this activity was inspiring and humbling to us.

"But shooting at a black hole for hours on end isn't our dream for how Destiny is played. Our hope is that social engagement in public spaces is only one part of the Destiny experience. Expect changes soon which decrease the efficiency of cave farming and correspondingly increase engram drops from completing activities."

Today's patch will also prevent players from acquiring ascendant materials when they dismantle Queen's Wrath gear but legendary items will continue to drop in missions.
