Last week Activision announced that Bungie's Destiny had become the "biggest new video game franchise launch in history", but in a press release today Ubisoft revealed that isn't the case, at least not for Western Europe.
In Ubisoft's home region, Watch Dogs – released in May – still reigns supreme. The French company stated "[Watch Dogs] became the industry's fastest-selling new IP in its first week — a record that still stands in all western European territories combined — by delivering a potent combination of action-adventure missions, seamless multiplayer modes and open-world exploration."
GFK Chart Track retail data shows that the game is still number one in UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Benelux, and the Scandinavian countries on all platforms excluding PC.
Chart Track confirmed earlier this week that Destiny had become the fastest-selling new IP specifically within the UK. Watch Dogs sold four million copies in its first week of release, breaking game industry records for a new property. While sales figures for Destiny have yet to be confirmed, the game generated sales of $325 million to consumers in its first week and $500 million in sales to retailers on its first day.
Watch Dogs DLC 'Bad Blood' was released for season pass holders today, and will be available from September 30th for everyone. The game will finally be making its way to Wii U in November.
