For the rest of September starting today, Halo Reach is the free game under Xbox’s Games With Gold program.
Consider it good timing, or a deliberate move by Microsoft. Fresh off the heels of the release of Bungie’s latest game,Destiny, Microsoft is offering their last Halo game, Halo Reach.
Halo Reach still holds up as a fine shooter for the Xbox 360, helping expand the universe, and extending the fun of online play. Some could even argue it would be timely to go back to it now, at least while waiting for Bungie to update their notoriously sparse new IP.
Of course, others would argue this is the worst of the Halo series as well. Between it and ODST are the most contentious and divisive Halo games.
One thing that is not up for debate here is the incredible value. Reach came out in 2010 and is still a relatively new title that would not yet warrant a price drop. Microsoft giving one of their flagship games away from free is a very good deal.
Microsoft also gave away Halo 3 last June under Games For Gold. There was just enough time between the two games for fans to get the most fun out of Halo 3 beforeReach. It is entirely possible that we will eventually see every Halo game rereleased under Games For Gold, an enticing deal for new Xbox owners to get Games for Gold above anything else.
