Square Enix Osaka has new job openings for development on Kingdom Hearts 3.
Those openings are for a user interface designer, as well as a technical artist.
A technical artist acts as the bridge between programmers and graphics designers. He or she creates a game’s interface graphics, field effects, such as water and snow, and special effects related to engine shaders. They are also in charge of keeping the integrity of the original art assets in transition to the actual game.
A user interface designer’s job sounds simple, but it is actually very important. The layouts need to be designed with ease of use and consistency with previous sequels in mind. Of course, players will spend untallied hours going through those menus, and they have a definite, if not conspicuous, effect on the gaming experience.
Kingdom Hearts 3 was just announced at this year’s E3, and at the same event, lead developer Tetsuya Nomura stated that the game was announced too early, relative to how far the studio had actually gone into development. These openings seem to indicate they are just starting to get out of the preliminary stages of development, after at least a year of work.
