Piranha Games, the Canadian developer behind Die Hard: Nakatomi Plaza and MechWarrior Online, has just unveiled its latest project: Transverse. It’s a PC MMORPG set in a lawless region of space called “The Fringe,” where you must make a life for yourself with the little resources at your disposal. You construct and pilot ships ranging from small crafts to giant vessels requiring many crewmates, not unlike in Star Citizen, and go out into space in search of fame and / or fortune. And since there are no NPC shops, mines, or manufacturers, you essentially build the in-game economy on your own.
Also like Star Citizen, Transverse is leaving its future up in the hands of the community through an on-site crowdfunding campaign. There isn’t a solid end target, but each of the current goals will add the features that were advertised in the initial pitch. This includes actual spaceflight at the $1 million mark through space combat at the $2 million mark and beyond. There are various pledge rewards, from forum badges to a soundtrack CD, but the ones most people would be interested in are the digital copy of the game for $30 and beta access for $60.
Check the Transverse website for more details as well as to offer donations.
