Activision and Bungie show off their fun loving side with these new advertisements for Destiny. They released a new live action trailer and a perfume ad.
The live action trailer is pure 80s action movie fun. Peter Dinklage’s voice acting is back, but it takes a backseat to the hijinks the Hunter, Titan, and Warlock get into. It’s definitely a different look at the game than what we have gotten from the footage, trailers, and beta thus far. Licensing Led Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song definitely helps. It might even make you think of the advertising for Sunset Overdrive.
Of course, implicit in the trailer is the idea that you and your friends will be making this fun yourselves. The lore behind Destiny can be grim at some points, but Bungie wants you to know that you don't have to worry about all that and you can have some fun with it.
The Destiny perfume ad seems to be a callback to other video game merchandising deals. The closest to something like this in recent memory was the limited edition Final Fantasy XII energy drink by Suntory.
As for the big secret? You really need to see it for yourself, since spoiling it would ruin everything. Check out the perfume ad here.
Destiny will be released on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One this September 9.
