Sales of The Witcher games have reached 8 million copies worldwide.
CD Projekt RED themselves made this revelation, in a recent financial report. Based on prior data, 1 million more copies were sold since March 2013. CD Projekt RED themselves have 51.2 million zloty (roughly close to $ 16 million) in cash reserves.
This report was released in the build up to the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt next year. They are working with 17 different partners to release the game in 109 countries.
The original The Witcher was released in 2007 to Windows and OS X, and then rereleased for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 as The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf. On the other hand, The Witcher 2 was released to PC for Windows, OS X, and Linux in 2011, and exclusively to Xbox 360 the following year.
The Witcher games have always been critically received well, and the franchise made CD Projekt RED’s reputation, even before their success with GOGcom. They have big plans for The Witcher as well, as they have revealed plans for a new adventure game for desktop PCs and mobile, as well as a mobile only The Witcher Battle Arena, to expand the scope and variety of these games.
This is mainly good news for The Witcher and CD Projekt RED fans, who are sure to have high hopes for the games and the company in the future.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is coming to Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on February 24, 2015.
