Square Enix has announced plans to make more Theatrhythm games outside of the Final Fantasy franchise.
Speaking to German gaming website Planet 3DS (via CVG), the Theatrhythm series producer Ichiro Hazama said that the upcoming Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call will have essentially exhausted all that is possible with the Final Fantasy franchise and its extensive collection of music, including music from Type 0. However, that doesn’t mean it’s the end of the Theatrhythm series.
"From my personal view, I really like what we've created here: the Threatrhythm series and the type of game," Hazama said.
"And yes, even though this is the end of Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy, I really don't want to bring the Theatrhythm series as a whole to an end.
"Obviously I don't have anything we can announce at the moment but we really would like to move out and go into other titles. So you can certainly expect something from Theatrhythm like that in the future."
The company has franchises like Dragon Quest, The World Ends With You and Kingdom Hearts, all of which have extensive soundtracks that could very well be used to turn into Theatrhythm games.
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call is the upcoming follow-up to the original Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, which was originally released in 2012. It’s set to come out on September 16, 2014 for the Nintendo 3DS.
