Assassin’s Creed Unity Returns to the Series’ Roots

August 22, 2014 by Ian Miles Cheong

Unity is poised to bring the series back to its roots.

In a new Assassin’s Creed Unity video, the game’s senior producer Vincent Pontbriand goes into detail about how the game reworks core elements of the long-running Assassin’s Creed franchise.

Unity isn’t Pontbriand’s the first Assassin’s Creed game that he’s worked on, having also developed previous titles in the series, the veteran knows the ins-and-outs of the games and what makes them tick.

He explains in the video, which was released on the PlayStation Blog, that working on Unity “feels like the first one all over the again, in the sense that we've renewed all our pillars, rebuilt all our technology.”

In the video, Pontbriand talks about the three pillars of the Assassin’s Creed series, which are navigation, stealth and combat—all of which have been reworked for the new title with new technology backing its development.

The gameplay footage backing the interview showcases the game’s new protagonist Arno Dorian traversing through the streets and buildings of revolutionary Paris, France. The character makes good use of his stealth abilities as he takes out numerous opponents with his hidden blades.

Assassin’s Creed Unity is dated for an October 28 release on the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
