4J Studios has shared an update on their upcoming ports of Minecraft to the latest generation of consoles. Unfortunately, it’s not what you want to hear.
A week ago, they told us that they were still working on the bugs for the port for each platform. They had yet to send the ports to the Certification testing teams. They also assured existing console players that they were not holding back any Xbox 360 updates.
Well, that affirmation seems to come with consequences, as they explain they are still working on the bugs. Yes, 4J still has not sent their builds to the Certification testing teams, so it is not coming to any of the new platforms anytime soon, at all.
We're still working our way through the bugs.
We'll let you know when we hand over to the Cert testing teams!

Of course, fans are going to overreact regarding the delays, so to be clear, as disappointing as the delays are, this is definitely for the best. This should not need pointing out, but of course, 4J won’t even bother sending their builds for certification if they know they’ll be sent back if bugs are found. Also worth noting, and supposedly self-evident, is the fact that 4J was pretty ambitious going for ports for three platforms simultaneously.
The question is, are fans willing to abide by buggy, compromised experiences so that Minecraft can live up to the next-gen hype? I am a little worried that they may be, but even if that were the case, I think Mojang will not abide by compromises. At this point, I personally doubt they will make the announced August release date.
