Ubisoft blogged about being at SDCC for the Assassin’s Creed Experience. They also shared some new details for Assassin’s Creed Unity.
Let’s get to the meat first, which is the new gameplay details. Parkour for this game has been practically remade from the ground up. Emphasis was placed on flow and freedom of movement. As you may already know, you can know parkour down as well as up, so that you can go all the way down without using haystacks.
There is also a new core mechanic, stances, that changes how stealth works in the game. Basically, with a single button press, you can go into stealth mode, allowing you to crouch, keep automated cover, and move silently throughout.
The camera may be the best improvement in the game yet, or worst. There is now only one camera, which runs its own AI, and dynamically chooses the best angle and moves around for you appropriately. Ubi is pitching this in the sense that you indirectly control the camera. Of course, it’s one thing to say the camera can do this now, and another to see if it lives up to its promise.
Ubi’s Assassin’s Creed Experience was basically a Ninja Warrior style parkour obstacle course. Perhaps not coincidentally, recently minted American Ninja Warrior superstar Kacy Catanzaro went through the course herself, and of course, cleared it.
You can get a peek of it all below. Assassin's Creed Unity is set for release on October 28th for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
