Casey Hudson, the Creative Director of the Mass Effect series has officially left BioWare after 16 years of employment at the Canadian company.
"After what already feels like a lifetime of extraordinary experiences, I have decided to hit the reset button and move on from BioWare. I’ll take a much needed break, get perspective on what I really want to do with the next phase of my life, and eventually, take on a new set of challenges," wrote Hudson in a letter shared to his colleagues. “This is without a doubt the most difficult decision of my career.”
Hudson worked on a number of games during his tenure with BioWare, including early titles like Neverwinter Nights and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, to the Mass Effect trilogy most recently. In his departing letter, Hudson shared his excitement for the next Mass Effect title and Dragon Age: Inquisition, calling the former game a title that he believes will “redefine interactive entertainment.”
It remains to be seen whether Mass Effect 4 will live up to its promises, but Hudson seems cheerful about it. He added that development for the game is “Well underway, with stunning assets and playable builds”, which prove that the team is ready to deliver what he calls “the best Mass Effect experience to date.”
“And the Dragon Age: Inquisition team is putting the final touches on a truly ambitious title with some of the most beautiful visuals I’ve seen in a game,” added Hudson.
There’s been no word on whether Hudson was given a choice between red, green, and blue retirement packages. I stole this joke from Ross Lincoln.
