We have some new information for Minecraft releasing on Xbox One, and what this means for Xbox 360 owners.
Now, to be clear, we are not discriminating on Playstation owners here. However, we are focusing on the Xboxes simply because all this info is strictly Xbox related .We have no new details, even rumors, about the pending Minecraft release on Playstation 4 and Vita.
With that out of the way, Gamestop has apparently unwittingly leaked the release date for Xbox One. The game will be available to download for August 19, with the listed price of $ 5. Of course, that $ 5 amount is only for players who already own the game on Xbox 360. We do know the game is coming this August, but there isn’t enough information here to make us believe the rumor is 100 % credible or 100 % false. It came from Gamestop, which has unwittingly ‘leaked’ false information before, but of course has also had legit leaks, so make of it what you will.
Now, this release may be putting some legacy players on alert, so Microsoft Studios game producer Roger Carpenter came up to assure fans that they would still be supporting Xbox 360 owners. Considering that the 360 was where the game found its initial console success, and subsequently has a notable fanbase, it would be crazy for Microsoft and Mojang to suddenly abandon them.
Finally, one fan speculates on the possibility of the Xbox One version getting multiplayer servers, but we do not know that Mojang has the money or the interest to lease Azure’s servers. Still, it would be an interesting proposition with endless possibilities.
