Capcom has just revealed that they are rereleasing 2002’s Resident Evil for the Gamecube, to be remade in HD as a digital only release. Resident Evil HD is coming to Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Windows early 2015.
In a blog post, Capcom revealed precisely what enhancements the HD version is going to get. In-game models and backgrounds are getting improvements, and there will be a scrolling camera to adjust the original 4:3 aspect ratio to the 16:9 ratio of modern gaming displays. They promise this will scroll smoothly. The game will also have both the original tank controls and newer modern controls. All of these abovementioned options can be changed in-game, anytime.
I am sure I do not need to point out the elephant in the room. Unfortunately, Capcom is still in announce mode, and I am sure they already anticipated Wii U (and possibly 3DS) fans were going to ask, plead, complain, and what have you, but they are not replying to the fans on this yet.
The other angle to this is that it comes two years after the release of Resident Evil 6. Mysteriously, Capcom has shared nothing here about the status of Resident Evil 7. We don’t even know if that game is even in development. Capcom’s promised to bring the game back to its survival horror origins with the next one, so where you looking forward to it? Will this be enough to tide you over in the meantime? Are you asking yourself why Capcom is even rereleasing this game again? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
