Today we want to introduce you to one of the most promising, creepy indie horror games to come out in a while, and again, a triumph of crowdfunding. Introducing Darkwood, now available via Steam Early Access.
Darkwood is a top down survival horror game, with an open sandbox, procedurally generated, game world. Deep in a forest in Eastern Europe, you find yourself constantly accosted by the dark and strange creatures. The game has been deliberated designed to be exceedingly difficult, and obscure, hence the top down view to make details harder to make out. You will need to make your own maps, and plan out your paths. To top it all off, the game has permadeath, although you do get some gear back when you start again.
The game successfully received the Steam Greenlight, and was also successfully crowdfunded in IndieGogo to the tune of $ 57,323 (from a $ 40,000 goal). If you get it via Early Access now, you will be able to go through the prologue and the first chapter, and that’s it. We imagine for many horror fans, this small taste will be too good to pass up. Of course, Steam also has it on sale, from its regular $ 14.99 price down to $ 13.49.
You may have noticed I’ve stayed away from sharing too many details from the game. That’s because I want you to experience this interactive trailer developers Acid Wizard Studio have concocted. It’s wickedly delicious, and nothing too graphic, but possibly too much for some gamers, so caveat emptor! Check out the trailer below.
