Far Cry 4 narrative director Mark Thompson shared a new tidbit about the game, that has nothing to do with the story at all. Ubisoft has made the call to retool the hunting system.
In Far Cry 3, hunting was done with things like grenades and RPGs, which of course, did not really make sense because you would not be able to do those things in real life.
So, in Far Cry 4, they’ve made things a lot more believable, and perhaps Ubi took some cues from the new Tomb Raider. You can hunt deer down with the bow, but taking it a step further, you can craft potions to catch the deer, or just outright sneak up on one for a headshot.
Having caught a deer, you can then collect the hide and craft the retrieved materials.
This all plays in with the game’s overall design, which is mostly carried over from the last game. All the things you do in the game still lead towards game progression, whether in big or small ways. Elements like hunting are integrated seamlessly into the system.
And so, when the game starts, you won’t have a lot of equipment with you, but you will have enough things to start hunting. You can then opt to go out to the open world to hunt animals, and retrieve the materials you need to craft your own upgrades.
Far Cry 4 is coming November 18th in North America and on November 21st in Europe for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
